We are pleased to inform that Dr. Khaled Hassine‘s study on the Housing and Property Directorate/Claims Commission (HPD/CC) in Kosovo was honored with an Academia award for its outstanding contribution to the research on HLP rights and mass claims procedures in post-conflict situations. His legal study, for which Prof. Dr. Veijo Heiskanen, Lalive Avocats Genève, wrote the preface, builds on a comparative analysis of procedural and institutional precedents, and is also an important work of reference in terms of the annexed documentation and jurisprudence.
Dr. Hassine demonstrated how housing and property rights can be secured in the aftermath of conflicts through his careful analysis of institutional frameworks and procedures, including mediation and dispute settlement mechanisms. His study is a pioneering work, which substantially enhances the understanding of the important role which the resolution of property claims has played in post-conflict peace building and will continue to play in these and other settings, including post-disaster situations, and underscores the vision of a world were refugees and displaced persons can return to their homes.
